Island Bush Camp is open between May and November, the Zambia bush camp has a seasonal existence that avoids the rainy season.

Island Bush Camp is an intimate camp which lies under a grove of mahogany trees in a very game-rich area of the southern section of South Luangwa National Park. Island Bush Camp is an excellent-value walking camp, in a very wild area far from any other camps in the park. Get back to nature and experience unspoilt African wilderness at Island Bush Camp, a rustic bush camp set on the banks of the Luangwa River. With views that stretch from the Chindeni hills in the Eastern corners of the Luangwa Valley to the Muchinga escarpment in the West, guests of the camp are presented with the complete natural boundary of this remote and achingly beautiful wilderness. The camp retains the rustic feel with open-air bathrooms featuring hot bucket showers that are filled once per day. There is no electric power here, so paraffin lights are used in the evenings. Every day is presented with new experiences and never the same.

Accommodation

Island Bush Camp is a simple property, with just five thatched bush chalets, all identical in build and style. Each is raised off the ground on its own wooden platform, and is completely open at the front, so you can sit and enjoy the view of the Luangwa River from your bed.

Dining

Food is freshly prepared in the camp’s open-air kitchen using a simple wood-burning stove. The friendly staff members of Island Bush Camp will cater to your culinary desires by preparing delicious meals and serving you under the canopy of stars during alfresco candle-lit dinners.

Activities

Walking safaris are Island Bush Camps’ main activity in this heavenly place. This is your chance to explore the bush on a different level. You walk in small groups and will be escorted by an armed official wildlife scout and our experienced guides. This ensures your safety and gives you an exciting and educational view of the bush at ground level.

What we think of it

Great experience of the open-fronted huts, the paraffin lamps, and the bush showers.
