With its low rainfall, Namibia is generally good to visit all year round.  Rain fall can be expected between the months of December to March but it’s generally localized, afternoon thunderstorms.  The winter months of June to August are generally pleasant during the day but very cold to freezing at night, especially in some dessert areas.  Keen photographers generally prefer the months of March to May and August to October to visit Sosussvlei as the cool air offers better clear skies for photography.

Desert Camp is situated a short 5 km from the entrance gate to the Sossusvlei and Sesriem Canyon in the Namib Nuauklauft Park.  Tucked in between centuries old thorn trees, Desert Camp offers guests unsurpassed views of the surrounding desert landscape and mountains.  It is a landscape that inspires nature lovers and photographers alike.  The Camp offers self catering accommodation with two communal bomas, sparkling swimmingpool, bar and reception area.  Activities and meals can be booked with the nearby Sossusvlei Lodge.  A great option for visitors who want to experience the renowned Sossusvlei and Sesriem Canyon.

Self Catering Units

The 20 eco friendly units are all perfectly designed to blend in with the surrounding desert environment.  All of the units are self catering with a verandah that features a barbeque, small kitchenette with under counter fridge and 2 plate hob.  Guests that dont have their own cutlery and crockery can obtain a fully packed box from Reception.  The interior is spacious and features a twin bed as well as a fold out sleeper couch for two small children.  The en suite bathroom has a shower, toilet and wash basin.

Desert Camp is a self catering accommodation and there is no restaurant on site.  Guests can however order a variety of fresh food items from Reception which will then be delivered to the unit.  Items available range from cereals and coffee to meat cuts and salads.  Or for a real pamper book a private local chef to prepare the meal for you at your unit.  There is also the option to book for meals at the nearby Sossusvlei Lodge.  Alternatively a little shop at Sossus Oasis carries various essential items.

All the activities are managed from the nearby Sossusvlei Lodge.  Guests staying at Desert Camp can also book these activities. Available options are a guided Sossusvlei trip, 4×4 sundowner trips, bush dinners, guided sunset walks, archery, star gazing, helicopter flights, hot air ballooning and eco friendy quad biking to name a few options.

What we think of it

Superb location and great option for those that want the self catering experience but dont wish to camp.
