With its low rainfall, Namibia is generally good to visit all year round.  Rain fall can be expected between the months of December to March but its generally localized, afternoon thunder storms.  The winter months of June to August are generally pleasant during the day but very cold to freezing at night, especially in some dessert areas.

Situated just 60km north of Sesriem, the gateway to Sossusvlei, the Namib Desert Lodge is an ideal base from which to explore the attractions in the area. This unique game lodge nestles at the foot of the ‘fossilised’ dunes of the protomorphic Namib. Overlooking the lodge are 20 million years old and contain fossils of the ancestors of the modern day Ostrich. They are evidence that an earlier Namib existed. As the climate changed, gradually getting wetter, the additional moisture caused the sand to solidify into sandstone. Then some 5 million years ago, the climate reverted to the desert conditions found in the Namib today, allowing the formation of a new sand sea. If you want to experience the beauty of the Namib Desert in Namibia, the Namib Desert Lodge, is a good accommodation option.

Accommodation is in 65 double rooms. They are all equipped with twin beds, en-suite bathrooms and air-conditioning. Some of the rooms overlook the dunes and others the cliffs to the rear. The main building and the chalets are spread along the foot of the ‘fossilized’ dunes of the ancient Namib. The restaurant and the bar as well as the inviting terrace, which provides spectacular views of the dunes.

Buffet style breakfast and dinner are served at the restaurant as well as a small selection of light lunches can be ordered on request. One of the two sparkling pools will provide welcome refuge from the desert heat. All meals are deliciously prepared by the team of Namib Desert Lodge.

As Namib Desert Lodge doesn’t run it’s own excursions into Sossusvlei, most guests self-drive into Namibia’s famous dunes from here. The Lodge’s own activities include the Dune Star Camp Hike, an evening sundowner dune trip, complete with drinks and snacks and a 2hr hiking trail to some of the local dunes.
