Botswana itself is a year round destination. Winter is the most popular months for game viewing as the bush thins out and wildlife congregate around available water sources.  This is normally from June to August.  September and October is also dry but extremely hot.  The rains normally begin around November / December which transforms the park to a major birding destination.

Xobega Island Camp is a little piece of paradise for nature lovers and keen birders.  It is located on a small island in the renowned Okavango Delta, just off the mainland of the Moremi Game Reserve.  Precautions have been taken to keep the Camp’s impact minimal on the pristine surroundings and therefore the lodge is very eco orientated with solar power and buckets showers.  It could easily be seen as The Camp’s tree filled island location means that safari experiences are water based.  Its all about birds, boat cruises and hippos with the ever present Elephants never far away.

Meru Style Safari Tents

The 10 Meru style safari tents are inconspicuously located in between the trees standing on Xobega Island.  Each tent accommodates 2 persons on stretcher beds (and full linen) and has an eco orientated, open air en suite bathroom.  The bathroom has a standing canvas wash basin, bucket shower and chemical toilet.  Relax in one of the two safari chairs on the covered veranda or take a afternoon siesta in the hammock.  The tents are located a short distance from the main camp area with pathways connecting everything in between the lush green vegetation of the island.

The friendly team at Xobega Island take great pride in preparing enjoyable dishes based on available fresh produce.  The main dining tent forms the heart of the camp and has a long, family style dining table.  A fire pit under the trees is ringed by chairs and makes an excellent spot for evening gatherings and drinks.

With the access to Xobega Island Camping being by boat only, boats are also used for game viewing.  There is no option for game drives but short, guided bush walks can be arranged.  cruise along the hippo filled channels as you look out for birds and wildlife. The Pels’ fishing owls are also known to nest on Xobega Island which is something for avid birders to look forward to.
