Itinerary

Day 1- 3

Welcome to Mozambique!

You will be met on arrival in Beira Airport by the Gorongosa National Park transfer driver. Enjoy a scenic drive from Beira Airport to Gorongosa National Park, a duration of approximately 4 – 4.5 hours. In its prime, Gorongosa was considered one of the best natural parks in the world, a sought-after destination by travellers from around the world. Unfortunately, a crippling major flood and civil war devastated the infrastructure, flora and fauna and the park was closed for many years. However, in the past several years the park has gained momentum and international acclaim for its successful ongoing rehabilitation and restoration projects. It is quickly becoming one of Mozambique’s most popular eco-tourism destinations and has been proclaimed one of the most “biodiverse” places on earth.

The Lion House, Hippo viewpoint, limestone cliffs of Chiringoma, Lake Urema floodplains and Mount Gorongosa are some of the many attractions, other than its rich wildlife population, in Gorongosa National Park.

Enjoy three nights at Montebelo Gorongosa Lodge & Safari in a Premium Bungalow on a Bed & Breakfast basis.

Included activities: one morning and one afternoon game drive. Optional activities that can be booked directly included a visit to Mount Gorongosa, walking safaris, canoe safaris, boat safaris and community visits. Note some activities are dependent on water levels.

Day 4 & 5

Bid the team farewell as you return back Beira Airport from where you will connect to your afternoon flight to Maputo. On arrival at Maputo Airport your driver will be waiting for you for the transfer to your hotel in Maputo, the Montebelo Girassol Maputo, located in a unique circular building that offers panoramic views over Maputo bay and city.

On your second day in Maputo you will join a local guide who will host you on a guided tour of the City of Maputo. This vibrant capitol city is rich in history, local culture and history and a guided tour is the best way to truly understand the past, present and future of the city. Stops during the tour include the Fortress, Central Market, Museum of Natural History, Railway Station and FEIMA curios market to name a few. The full day tour is approximately 5 hours in duration and includes a seafood lunch.

Enjoy two nights at Montebelo Girassol Maputo, sharing in a Standard Room, on a Bed and Breakfast basis.

Included activity: Guided Full Day Maputo City Tour including Seafood lunch (excludes beverages)

Day 6 – 9

After breakfast you will depart for Maputo Airport from where you will board your flight for Vilanculos Airport. The small coastal town of Vilanculos is often referred to as the gateway to the beautiful Bazaruto Archipelago.

The Bazaruto Archipelago is a group of 6 islands off the coast of Vilanculos. The islands lie within Bazaruto National Park and are known for their white-sand beaches. The largest island is Bazaruto, which is known for it’s with its towering sand dunes. Coral reefs around Magarugue and Santa Carolina islands protect rare marine animals, like dugongs, and make for spectacular diving and snorkelling. On the mainland a variety of activities can be enjoyed, including visiting the islands of the Archipelago, horse riding, snorkelling trips, seasonal whale and dolphin cruises, deep sea fishing and kite surfing.

Casa Rex, your lodge during your stay in Vilanculos, offers panoramic views over the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean and the Bazaruto Archipelago islands. Small and intimate, the lodge is the ideal base from which to explore the area and all that it has to offer. The friendly team will gladly assist with any activity bookings or you may choose to just relax in the lush gardens next to the swimming pool after a long walk on the beach.

Enjoy a day trip to Margarugue Island in a traditional dhow sailing vessels. Dhows have been used as the main form of transport along the coastlines of Mozambique for centuries and the design used today has changed little over the past hundred years. The day trip includes time to enjoy some snorkelling and discover the beaches of Margarugue Island. The rustic beach picnic lunch prepared by the crew is the perfect ending to fun filled day.

Enjoy four nights at Casa Rex, sharing in an Acacia Room, on Bed & Breakfast basis.

Included activity: Sailaway Dhow Safari to Margarugue Island including snorkelling and beach picnic lunch (park fees to be paid directly).

Day 10

Sadly your holiday has come to an end. You will be transferred back to Vilanculos Airport to check in for your onward departure flight.

What is excluded
- All meals, beverages, entrance fees, activities, flights, transfers and car rental not listed under Includes section.
- Regional and domestic flight fares and taxes are excluded but can be quoted on request (for Beira – Maputo recommended flight is TM105 departing at 15h10 from Beira and arriving 16h30 in Maputo).
- All items of a personal nature such as curio shop purchases, telephone calls and gratuities.
- Conservation and National Park fees as and when applicable.
- Travel Insurance – essential for travel in Africa
