Casinhas

The focus has very much been to preserve the raw natural beauty of the beach and coastal forest at Anvil Bay and therefore as little construction as possible has been done.  The rooms, or Casinhas, are tucked away inside the coastal forest a few feet from the white beach.  Each room is a tasteful blend of natural materials, local craftsmanship, simple yet highly functional furnishings, fine linen and a small footprint.  The canvas sides of the tent can be rolled up to allow in the cooling ocean breezes and natural sounds of the forest.  Each Casinha has an open plan en suite bathroom with indoor and outdoor shower, well stocked mini bar and outside deck.  Outdoor lighting has been kept to a minimum to better enjoy the majestic African night sky and to cause minimal disturbance to nesting turtles (seasonal).

Dining

A large canvas tent provides shade and the location for the beach restaurant & bar where the breeze over the ocean cools down the heat of the day.  Should the weather not suit a beach setting for your meal, a large thatch restaurant nestled in the coastal forest is available.  The chef team make use of fresh seafood and produce sourced from local communities to create delectable dishes with a Mozambican flair.  End off your day around the beach bon fire as you discuss the day’s activities or simply sit back and admire the expansive star filled sky.

Activities

Anvil Bay offers a variety of activities to keep guests entertained.  The Lodge has an exquisite stretch of beach perfect for long walks with beautiful ocean and sunset viewpoints on top the dunes.  The birdlife in the coastal forest will delight keen birders with Fish Eagles often seen.  For the more adventurous there are Fat Bikes, sea kayaks, stand up paddle boards, snorkeling, body boarding, fishing as well as whale and turtles to be seen (seasonal).

What we think of it

This is truly the perfect destination to getaway from the modern day rush and unwind in a beautiful, pristine area.  A unique and stylish mix of luxury lodge & beach camping.
