Boat transfer from Maputo Marina to the Lodge, duration approximately 60 – 90 minutes.

Road transfers can be arranged from Kruger Mpumalanga Airport (Nelspruit) or game lodges in the Kruger Park area to the Maputo Marina.

Generally good all year round with rain experienced from December to end March. Whale Season is from July to November.

Machangulo Beach Lodge is one of the most easily accessible beach lodges in Mozambique. Situated a mere 90 minutes from Maputo by boat, the lodge offers the pristine beauty of an island style destination with the convenience of being located near the capitol of Mozambique. Located on the mainland opposite Inhaca Island, guests can enjoy endless beaches along with a wealth of activities for young and old to enjoy. The choice of accommodation types – from the Ocean View Rooms to the Villas – comfortably accommodates both romantic honeymooners as well as families with ease. Enjoy spectacular views from the main restaurant, a soothing massage in the Machangulo Spa or delicious picnic on the beach after a thrilling snorkel in the Inhaca Marine Reserve.

Ocean View Rooms

The five Ocean View Rooms have spectacular views of the Indian Ocean and Inhaca Island from their vantage point up on the dune. Each room features its own private deck en suite bathroom, air conditioning, mini bar and luxury amenities. These rooms are best suited to honeymooners and couples.

Family & Beach Villas

The Villas offer the most convenient access to the beach at Machangulo. The Villas offer flexibility for families and groups traveling together. The Family Villas are set slightly back in surrounding natural vegetation for a private, home away from home feeling. They have two private en suite rooms with a shared central living room area. They also feature their own private swimming pool and deck. The Beach Villas are located nearest to the beach and consist of en suite rooms connected via wooden decks and pathways.

Dining

The dedicated kitchen team at Machangulo Beach Lodge enjoy creating a variety of dining experiences for guests using local, fresh ingredients and flavours in simple and mouth-watering ways. Freshly caught seafood and other fine dishes are paired with imported wines. From tapas style lunches to romantic dinners, the team endeavours to ensure that every meal becomes a highlight.

Activities

A wealth of activities is on offer at Machangulo Beach Lodge. The Marine Reserve surrounding the Machangulo Peninsula offers excellent diving and snorkeling. The Lodge has a full PADI dive centre to care for both the beginner and advanced diver. Or take the family to enjoy pristine snorkeling and a beach picnic on Inhaca island – a popular activity at the lodge. Keen fishermen will feel right at home amongst the various world class fishing locations in the area. Guests can also enjoy kayaking, birding and dhow trips.

What we think of it

The only good quality beach destination in the Maputo area – the lodge is close enough to the capitol for ease of access but also far enough for guests to enjoy a pristine beach and stunning activities.
