Travessia Beach Lodge is an eco property situated amongst the coconut palms north of Inhambane, en route to Vilanculos.  The castaway chic atmosphere perfectly blends in with the endless beach, remote location and laid back welcoming neighbouring communities.  Travessia has a strong Responsible Tourism ethos and continuously foster strong community relations.  The Lodge was built with locally sourced building materials and craftsmen. Currently the majority of the staff compliment the stem from the neighbouring communities.  They take great pride in hosting guests on bush walks and casual visits to the villages for a natural, uncontrived cultural experience.

Casas

All the Casas are built on raised wooden decks with either timber or canvas walls under the typically styled Mozambican thatched roofs.  Three of the casas have King or Twin beds all with mosquito nets, spacious deck with a hammock, en suite bathrooms and outdoor showers.  All the secluded casas boast 180° sea views.  The family casas comfortably accommodates four people in King or Twin beds and a third bed or baby cot can be arranged for families of five.  The lodge is entirely solar powered to ensure a light environmental footprint.

Dining

The menu at Travessia Beach Lodge is dictated by what is in season and fresh in the local markets and shops.  Locally grown coconuts are available all year round with fresh fish and crayfish is brought in by the talented fisherman of the neighbouring communities.  Their food is family friendly and usually a fusion of South African – European comfort food with as much fresh fish and organic fruit and vegetables.

Activities

Travessia Beach Lodge is not situated in a protected bay so there is always some surf which is perfect for boogie boarding and canoeing.  At low tide there are various tidal pools for the children to enjoy.  The lodge does not have its own motorized water sport centre but can make arrangements for such activities with one of the dive centres in Inhambane.

What we think of it

Best suited for those who just wish to escape the rush of everyday life and do not want a water sport activity filled holiday, but rather have the time to read a good book or go for long walks on the beach.
